Dinghy Hoist Instructions >

Dinghy Crane Use
USE ONLY FOR DINGHIES

The maximum dinghy weight including engine if fitted is 100kg. Do not exceed this weight. The winch has an inbuilt brake which stops the load from falling too quickly. This allows you to winch the dinghy down controlling the descent. This makes the winding action feel stiffer than might otherwise be the case. DO NOT OIL THE WINCH
it will destroy the brake.
Before use check:

  • There is no one below
  • Your painter is long enough to reach to the water
  • The strops on your boat balance the boat horizontal when hanging
  • The area around the crane is clear of other people allowing for the swing of the dinghy.

For Lowering

  • Unlock the jib swing arm
  • Swing the jib towards the club house.
  • Present the dinghy under the crane jib.
  • Unclip the hook from the strop and attach to the dinghy’s strops.
  • Wind the winch so the dinghy is high enough to clear the rail.
  • The jib swing lock will probably have re-locked so release.
  • Swing the jib so dinghy is clear of the wall below.
  • Make sure the painter is secured to the rail.
  • Lower the winch until dinghy is afloat.
  • Climb down the ladder and release the hook.
  • Climb back up the ladder and wind the winch cable back up.
  • Secure the hook to the strop and tighten the cable.
  • Leave the jib overhanging the wall.
  • Take dinghy away.
For raising.

  • Take dinghy to below crane.
  • Climb ladder taking your painter and secure to rail.
  • Release the hook from the strop and lower the winch cable to the dinghy.
  • Go back down the ladder and attach the hook to the dinghy strops.
  • Go back up the ladder and release the jib swing lock.
  • Operate the winch to lift the dinghy to clear the rail./
  • Check the jib swing lock is released and swing jib towards the clubhouse.
  • Lower dinghy to the terrace.
  • Release hook and secure to the strop, tighten cable.
  • Swing jib back over the wall. Make sure the swing lock is secured.
  • Take dinghy away.

After use please replace the winch cover to protect the mechanism, thank you
