IRC Registration
Incentive Scheme
The RORC Rating Office is offering an Incentive Scheme to clubs for IRC 'Cruiser' classes at regattas. This is available to clubs in Great Britain. Find more details on www.rorcrating.com.
Cheaper payment online for GBR owners
For GBR owners: Those of you who held a 2009 IRC rating should have received your yearbook and 2010 revalidation form by now. As a new initiative this year, you will see that fees are reduced if you pay online using MyIRC via the link on the IRC website.
2010 Programme and Race Officer Duty
The 2010 Race Programme is enclosed. On the back of the card you will find this year’s Race Officer Duty Rota.
Please note the date of YOUR duty in your diary NOW and if you require support of a Senior Race Officer on the day please advise Jan Vivian or the RFYC office by 25 March or at the Pre – Season Open Meeting. Cruiser skippers please note that RO Duty for the Wednesdays Series will be afloat on the Club Tender. This will mean that as afloat RO you will be responsible for
(a) Supplementing Club Tender Crew with at least one crew member and yourself.
(b) Setting the Offshore Cruiser Course and transmitting it to participants.
(c) Setting the Start Line.
(d) Staring the Race for both classes.
(e) Shortening the Course if necessary.
(f) Setting the Finishing Line.
(g) Recording results and transmitting them to the Race Office for attention of the handicapper.
As an ashore Race Officer, you must provide a recorder to assist you in the race office. This
is usually one of you crew.
Cruiser Race Programme
The Short Series Races will start on the early May Bank Holiday and include 5 Saturday races, Charlestown, Polkerris and Ladies Helm, and two others from July to end of August. Friday evening racing will complete on 25 June. All Friday racing will be self-regulating by the participants on the night.
Coastal Races will follow last year’s format to Newton Ferrers, Saltash, St Mawes and The Helford. The Helford race will combine with a COGS one and will be a pursuit race for all participants. We intend to run an overnight race to St Peter Port in Guernsey departing on Friday 2nd July. In addition we are planning an extra Coastal Race Rally to Salcombe over the weekend 4/5th September with the aim of getting some of the cruising fraternity to take part. Details are still being worked on.
Protests/Arbitration
We hope to continue to run an arbitration system to reduce the number of protests and improve knowledge of the sailing rules. Organising protest hearings is a time consuming activity for all involved and to help improve the current system we plan to have standard hearing times on Wednesday evening after racing and Saturday morning at 9.30am. Arbitration will be offered as an alternative to a protest but does not prevent you going to a full protest.
Troy and Dinghy Programme
There are no major changes except that Personal Flotation devices are to be worn by all crews when racing.
Race Officers Ashore
Please remember your race duty days. It is extremely important that you make your duty and penalties for non attendance are in the Sailing Instructions. As an experiment this year, it is intended to try and involve some of the junior racers in Race Office duties. A rota of juniors will be posted in FGSC and in the Race Office so don’t be surprised if you have an extra pair of hands. The aim is to show them what goes on in the race hut and how courses are selected and how sometimes things go wrong! It may also help the recorders know who is who in which boat!
Safety Boat Manning and Crewing
We need volunteers for the safety boats. Without these Volunteers, races do not get run and safety boats do not get manned! If you know of anyone who would like to volunteer please ask them to get in contact with Jan Vivian or Jason Penprase or leave their contact number with the RFYC office. Volunteers do not need experience just be willing to turn out whatever the weather!
Results and Handicaps
Clive Norris will take over as the Chairman of the Handicap Committee and Judy Kirkham will continue to do the Race results for the Wednesday Evening races.
Fowey Royal Regatta
Regatta week will follow the same format as 2010 with no major changes.
Pre - Season Open Meeting
This will take place at FGSC on Friday 26th March at 7.30 pm. All skippers and crews are most welcome and you can enter for the season and collect your Sailing Instructions after the meeting.
If anyone has not yet given us an email address please let us have it so that we can add it to our database and save on postage costs.
ON BEHALF OF ALL MEMBERS OF POFROC I WISH YOU ALL AN ENJOYABLE AND SUCCESSFUL RACING SEASON IN 2010.
